Access
Easier to search, saves space
Means to preserve/centralize all documents in one virtual "place" instead of across several physical locations
Print costs too much


CONS:
Format obsolescence and broken links
Copyright issues
Losing the pleasures of browsing
Cancelling a subscription means losing all archives access

Take aways from this session:
  • Digital book subscriptions to aggregated databases gives a great deal more access to titles than print collections for much less money, however, control of the stability of the collection's content is lost.
  • Corporations are able to pay higher fees for vendor subscriptions. Corporate libraries pay more for subscriptions than public, non-profit libraries.
  • The evolution of E-books has created more questions for collection development.
